Experience Videos

ImgThe videos included in this section (most less than 10 minutes) provide insights from researchers ranging from current grad students to seasoned faculty members to panels on common experiences.  Topics range from undertaking a job search to finding funding to attending conferences. These videos, often shown in sets of two or three, work well as starting points for group discussions.

Resource-related Talks

imgThe videos and powerpoints in this section help students with essential steps toward being and becoming grad students at a research university. Topics include taking the GRE, applying to grad school (and choosing the right grad schools to apply to), and using campus resources like the library. These could be reused as-is, or equivalents at your home institution could be substituted.

Common Reading Discussions

imgThese videos and powerpoints are based on common readings that help students become better researchers and faculty members.  There are two sets of common reading materials: a 4-part set based on the "Craft of Research" book by Booth, Colomb, and Williams that helps students with the process of research and writing (Crafting your Research), and a 5-part set based on the late Randy Pausch's "Last Lecture" book that helps students with topics like time management, professional relationships, and leadership.
